Tune Information:
Sweet Sue has been a swing favorite of mine since I heard Jon Sholle's
great recording of it on "Out Of The Frying Pan". The progression
is interesting without being overly complex, and it sounds great with
a Django sort of feel. I've submitted tunes to each of the last 3
(or is it 4?) Plecs, and this is by far my favorite, probably because
I'm playing at my own comfort level instead of trying to play at bluegrass
warp speed.
Instruments used:
Both the rhythm and lead
were recorded using my Gretsch G-450 archtop, a 1991 re-issue of the
Synchromatics that Gretsch made in the '30s. Looks very cool, plays
great, and sounds okay, considering that it costs about one fifth
of the price of many new archtops. The guitar has a floating pickup,
but I chose to record it acoustically, using Thomastik strings, which
give it a nice gypsy sound.
Recording information:
Direct to my iMac, using one cheapo old Shure mike and Deck software.
I put a little bit of delay on the lead guitar, and left the rhythm
dry.
