Instruments: Since old Dixie isn't fairing too well these days I thought it needed some "minor" help. Dixie Takedown is what we call the minor part. Dixie Hoedown is done with apologies to Roy Curry in hopes that he will be mildly humored. I'm playing the first licks and Eddie Collins does the second. I play through both the minor and regular progression
before passing it off to Eddie
Since it is the 165th anniversary of the fall of the Alamo, I thought it would be good to reinvigorate the song from John Wayne's version of the Alamo. Dimitri Tomkin wrote this song. He also wrote Rawhide, High Noon, and a host of other movie soundtracks. We had a great deal of fun with this song. I play both rhythm and lead, Jon plays fiddle and mando, Hans plays bass and percussion (leg slaps). Be careful how many times you listen to this song. It's been stuck in my head since I first heard it at the movie theater in Bay City, Texas in the early 60's. |
