The Ballad of Jesse James

A great, if not the quintessential, outlaw ballad. Cory recorded the mandolin and harmony vocals, and Jeff recorded the two guitar tracks and the lead vocals. Cory played a 1969 Gibson A-40 mandolin (courtesy of our friend and fellow Bullick Hollow Boy, Tom Boes), and Jeff played his 1979 Martin D41. The recording was done on a Roland VS-840EX, with Audio-Technica AT4033SM and AKG C1000S mics through a PreSonus Blue Tube preamp/phantom power unit. Jeff recorded his tracks at his home in Georgetown, Texas, and Cory recorded his tracks at the Volente, Texas home of friend and fellow Bullick Hollow Boy Rick Carlos.

Deanna's Reel

Jeff wrote this song in January 2001, after a 12-year songwriting dry spell. Jeff named this song after his 11-year-old daughter and dedicates it to her. Cory contributed a nice arrangement for his guitar part in dropped-D tuning, with Jeff playing in C position capoed up a step. Cory recorded his track with his 1998 Martin HD28-LSV, and Jeff recorded his track with his 1979 Martin D41. The recording was done on a Roland VS-840EX, with Audio-Technica AT4033SM and AKG C1000S mics through a PreSonus Blue Tube preamp/phantom power unit. The tracks were recorded "live" at Cory's home in Austin, Texas.

Flowers of Edinburgh

This is one of our favorite songs.
