Red Haired Boy (traditional) Our first public gig together at a pub in Göteborg. The audience had a good time and some people tried to dance. I guess we played a little too fast for dancing, since people where constantly falling. If you listen closely, you can hear a small noise in the middle of the tune. That was a lady who fell right across the stage and knocked down the microphone-stand. But, we kept playing.

Nashville Picking (Arthel Lane Watson, Doc) When Lars was 13 years old, a friend gave him a cassette with some music. Lars had never heard anything like it and fell constantly in love with the sound and spent the following 2 weeks in order to pick out the tune. That was Nashville Picking by Doc Watson, he had heard. This is how it sounds 20 years later at a live gig at the library in Lerum.

Duelling Guitars (Originally Dueling Banjos by Arthur Smith and rearranged by Thorsten and Lars).

This is a great tune, but never played at Bluegrass-festivals anymore. We are trying to do a little fun with it. Lars tries his best at the end, to make his guitar sound like a banjo.

Thorsten lives in Lerum, Sweden and Lars in Angered, Sweden. Thorsten plays a Martin D15 equipped with a Köppen-microphone on all tracks. Lars plays an Applause (owned by Thorsten) on Red Haired Boy and a Canadian Norman Dreadnaught on the other tracks.

Everything is recorded live with a Sharp minidisk-recorder with a small Sony stereo-microphone.

Here is the story behind the group. Thorsten Jakobsson is a hobby-musician with a great interest in American folk music and Bluegrass. He is a programmer by day with a Masters Degree in Computer Sciences. He decided that he needed some help from a professional to learn how to play Bluegrass guitar like the pro's and found Lars Möllesjö. Lars is a guitar-teacher and a classical guitar-player educated at the Conservatory (Musikhögskolan) in Göteborg, but also very interested in country-rock and Bluegrass. He got so excited that the two started this fun, fast, duo. You can see and hear them on the web at http://www.mp3.com/westcoastplayboys.
