Big Sciota is a tune I play with a bluegrass band called Hawk Ridge. Normally, we play it in G, but for this version, I thought I would try capoing it at the third fret to give it a different sound and make those 3-5-7 fret stretches in the 'B' part a little easier to play! I learned this tune after hearing Russ Barenberg's wonderful version. I didn't know what to do to make it longer as a guitar piece so I just played the melody an octave lower and added the short harmony thing at the end. I recorded the rhythm, the lead and added the harmony part last.

Recording: Recorded for Plect VI at Ringrock Studios (my friend Len Fox's home studio) with a Rhodes MT1 microphone, Soundcraft mixing board and TASCAM 8 track digital recorder.

I joined Flatpick-L in December 2000, ordered the Plect IV and V sets a short time later and am happy now to have the chance to contribute a tune to Plect VI. I've really learned a lot in the short time I've been a member and appreciate the helpful info from the good folks on the list.

Thanks go to my friend Len Fox for helping me record this at his home studio. Also, thanks to Randy, Ken and Dan, my bandmates in Hawk Ridge for the past three years. It's been fun--thanks guys.
