Liz Meyer and Mark Cosgrove have been working together as a duo since December 1998. They tour primarily in Europe, where they are one of the top acts on the folk and bluegrass scenes, playing a circuit of small concert halls in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Holland. Liz is a singer-songwriter whose songs have been recorded by other artists in 10 countries, including Kate MacKenzie, Emmylou Harris, and Auldridge, Bennett & Gaudreau. Mark is a Winfield flatpick champion (1994) and accomplished in many styles of music. He has an excellent sensitivity to the song and backs vocals beautifully.
The 2 tracks presented here were both recorded live on March 7, 2001, at Het Oude Raadhuis in Hoofddorp, Holland. It was the first night of the duo's Spring 2001 Tour, with Mark fresh off the plane from Philadelphia. "Keep Your Heart Away From Me" is the first song co-written by Liz and Mark. Its bittersweet lyrics are underscored by some blazing flatpick guitar work. "That's All" was written by Liz as a boy-girl vocal duet, and shows the duo's vocal blend to excellent advantage. Liz takes a minimalist approach to the lyrics on this one, and Mark plays a beautifully melodic solo. Liz plays a 1967 Martin D-28 (not pictured here) which looks as if it had been dragged behind a car, and Mark is playing a 1999 Martin D-18 V (not pictured here either!).
