Instruments: 1967 Guild D-40 (Colored Aristocracy) 1995 Martin HD-28 (Turkey in the Straw) 1974 Mossman Flint Hills (Shady Grove) Recording Equipment: Sony portable minidisk recorder and Microphone Madness “Viper” Binaural Stereo Microphones.
I enjoy using banjo tunings on guitar and adapting clawhammer and
3 finger picking techniques to flatpick style, especially crosspicking
rolls, drawing out modal tones and letting the open strings ring.
The alternate tunings are open G and D and also DADGAD. It was a little
tough recording this time with a band-aid over stitches in my left
index finger (fallout from inept guitar repair syndrome). My companion
in the picture is a very early, well-traveled Baby Taylor somewhere
in the Colorado Front Range. The neat thing with Baby is, if you encounter
a nasty airline security guard, you can quickly unscrew the neck.
The disassembled parts carefully padded (with a T-shirt) and stuffed
into the folded over soft carrying case fit within the limits of the
carry-on measuring cage. |
